What is EQ(Equalization)?

EQ is the Equalization of your sounds. EQ really lets you see and mess with all aspects of that sound like the low frequencies, middle frequencies and high frequencies. The low frequencies for example, would consist of the bases, Kicks and low ends of your instruments. This is where you can tweak and classify your sounds. It’s a puzzle that needs to be solved. That’s how you should approach mixing with EQ. Check out these tips below to see how you should approach EQ and its different frequencies.

INSTRUMENT FREQUENCY RANGE

Kick Drum

Any muddiness can be rolled off around 300Hz. Try a small boost around 5-7 KH to add some high end.

Snare

When approaching a snare, try to boost around 60-120Hz if the sound is a little too wimpy, Try boosting around 6HZ for that snappy sound.

Hi-Hats or Cymbals

Any apparent mudiness can be rolled off around 300Hz. To add some brightness, try a small boost around 3KHz.

Bass

Try Boosting around 60-70 Hz to add a bit more body to the sound. Any apparent mudiness can be rolled off around 300Hz. If more pressure is needed, boost around 6Hz.

Vocals

This is a different one, as I depends on the mic used to record the vocal. However apply either cut or boost around 300Hz, depending on the mic and song. Apply a very small boost around 6KHz to add some clarity.
